Beginner Guitar (Age 8-12)
Tuesdays (starts Jan 10th) 4.10pm - 5pm

Course Fee - £120
This course is aimed at someone who has just got their first guitar, either electric or acoustic. You will cover tuning, string names, posture, names of guitar parts, strumming, holding a plectrum, basic chords, basic finger picking, basic scales, note values and note names, well known songs to play along with and more!

This course is aimed at someone who has completed the beginner course. The focus is to learn 4/5 songs over the term and perform one of them at our mini end of term gig. The course reinforces the chords and techniques learnt on the previous course and introduces some new styles. The course uses a book with play along tracks so you can develop your ability to play in a band.

This course is aimed at someone who has learnt some basics such as tuning, easy chords, strumming techniques etc. or has completed our Beginner course. You will cover new chords including barre chords, picking techniques, scales, well known riffs and learn 4 well known songs. The focus is to play each song using the techniques learnt in the previous lesson so as to develop new skills and a repertoire together.

This course is aimed at someone who is just starting playing bass or guitarist who wants to explore bass techniques. You will cover tuning, posture, names of bass parts, explanation of pick ups and active systems, Left and right hand technique, note values and rhythms, working with a drummer, rock styles, 12 bar blues, basic harmony, well known bass lines and licks and more!

Rockschool Grade 4
Sundays (starts Jan 15th) 11.30am - 12pm

This course introduces the Rockschool grade 4 syllabus. The playalong pieces are studied along with new techniques required. There are 6 tunes to choose from, each needing a different approach to the style and sound. The exam can be taken in the Autumn term as an option.

This course is aimed at someone who has some experience of basic piano technique or is following on from our beginner piano course. You will develop your technique and increase knowledge of notation, new pieces (classical and popular), scales, timing, chords and broken arpeggios and more.

You will cover how to hold the sticks and stick technique, accents, note values and rhythms, rock grooves, fill ins, using a metronome and counting methods, playing along to well known songs, well known drum grooves, fills and more!

This course is aimed at someone who has covered the intermediate course. The Rockschool grade 3 syllabus is the base for the course. The pieces are studied and new styles introduced to create the right feel for each one. Technical exercises and working with the playalong tracks develop your playing to allow you to start preparing for the optional exam in the Autumn term.

You will work on some classic songs together as a band developing the skills to produce a great performance at the end of term. You will also work on an original song/tune together with the option of recording the result!

Join in the fun of singing arrangements of classic rock and pop songs in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Sutton Music Centre’s Academy facilities offer a great environment to get involved in music, meet like minded people and develop your skills. We will also have guest professional singers dropping in on some rehearsals to join in and offer performance tips
