This course is aimed at someone who has just got their first guitar, either electric or acoustic. You will cover tuning, string names, posture, names of guitar parts, strumming, holding a plectrum, basic chords, basic finger picking, basic scales, note values and note names, well known songs to play along with and more!

This course is aimed at someone who has just got their first guitar, either electric or acoustic. This course is aimed at someone who has learnt some basics such as tuning, easy chords, strumming techniques etc. or has completed our Beginner course. You will cover new chords including barre chords, picking techniques, scales, well known riffs and learn 4 well known songs. The focus is to play each song using the techniques learnt in the previous lesson so as to develop new skills and a repertoire together.

This course is aimed at someone who has been learning for 2 terms or more. The course concentrates on building a repertoire of songs incorporating some well known 'riffs'. There is also an introduction on how to approach different styles and performance tips.

This course is aimed at someone who has a knowledge of chords, scales, and strumming or has completed our Beginner course. The focus of the course is to build a repertoire of 4/5 songs and reinforce techniques learnt on the previous lessons

This course is aimed at someone who has their first drum kit and wants to learn the basic skills and techniques needed to play in a band situation. You will cover how to hold the sticks and stick technique, accents, note values and rhythms, rock grooves, fill ins, using a metronome and counting methods, playing along to well known songs, well known drum grooves, fills and more!

This course is aimed at someone who has been playing/studying guitar, bass, piano, drums or vocals for at least 1 year. You will work on some classic songs together as a band developing the skills to produce a great performance at the end of term. You will also work on an original song/tune together with the option of recording the result!
Rock & Pop Choir (age 14+)

Join in the fun of singing arrangements of classic rock and pop songs in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Sutton Music Centre’s Academy facilities offer a great environment to get involved in music, meet like minded people and develop your skills. We will also have guest professional singers dropping in on some rehearsals to join in and offer performance tips
